Arrow Season 5: New Vigilante, Mayor Queen, and Russia

Star City seems to draw all of the vigilante attention! A new report from TVLine claims that a new vigilante will be entering the fold in Star City, and from the sounds of it he may be operating on his own, not within the confines of Team Felicity Arrow and their rules! The character was described as follow:

Season 5 will also introduce the recurring role of a cocksure/reckless ex-Marine turned vigilante.

While the details remain scarce, DC comics history does reveal that ex. military men are quite plentiful. Character’s such as John Stewart, Wade Eiling, Jonah Hex, Sam Lane, Lucy Lane, Steve Trevor, and others remain off the table when it comes to speculation for obvious reasons (they’ve either appeared already or are off the table for the CWverse), other characters – such as the following list – are more than plausible candidates:

The aforementioned, among many more, are potential candidates for the Season 5 vigilante but given the brief description we’ve been given I’d put Gunhawk and Hitman among the top contenders until more information about the character is released.

While it isn’t explicitly stated it’s entirely possible that this new vigilante will emerge in the wake of the city being significantly less protected than before, both Thea and Diggle have now left Team Arrow and according to showrunner Wendy Mericle it seems Oliver’s mayor status will be crucial to Season 5 as she stated, “City Hall, that institution, is crucial to our series.”

Furthermore, after recent comments about the show “improving it’s Season 5 flashbacks”, Mericle had the following to say;

“It’s a very good possibility that we’ll finally find out how he got that Bratva tattoo and how he learned to speak Russian,” says Mericle. “When Oliver says, ‘No one can know my secret’ and he kills that guy in the pilot, we’re going to get some insight into that.”

Funnily enough, Mericle got the line wrong… it’s “nobody can know my secret”:
