While we’ve known for some time just which characters we’d be seeing on SyFy’s new series, Krypton, Deadline is now reporting the first official casting for the Superman-prequel series. Deadline is reporting that After Hours actor Georgina Campbell has landed the female lead in the series as Lyta Zod, a character with familial ties to Superman-villain General Zod. Back when character descriptions were released TVLine described the character as follows:
LYTA ZOD | This twentysomething beauty will likely have some familial tie to Superman’s future foe, General Zod, while she herself is a (reluctant) warrior. – TVLine
Deadline further elaborated on the initial casting report for Zod by stating that Campbell’s character will be “a member of Krypton’s military caste and the daughter of a general, Alura Zod. Lyta Zod serves as a cadet — and has also been having a clandestine, forbidden romance with Seg-El (not cast yet)” (Deadline).
Interestingly, assuming comic book canon is followed, the un-cast Seg-El is Superman’s grandfather, and Jor-El’s father. Comic cannon has skated around just who Superman’s grandmother is, could the show tie together the Zod and El family lines; making Superman and General Zod much more than the last sons of Krypton, but family as well?
