Gotham: The Court of Owls to be a Major Player and More in the Conclusion of Gotham’s Third Season

CBR recently spoke with Gotham actor David Mazouz, about what is upcoming for the remainder of Season 3 of Gotham (Click here for the full article). David Mazouz plays a young Bruce Wayne in Gotham, which as show that explores Gotham City before Batman has two distinct stories to tell. First How does Gotham develop into a city where a vigilante like Batman must become necessary, and secondly how does a recently orphaned Bruce Wayne take the first steps on the road to becoming Batman.

Over the course of 2 seasons Bruce has changed from a young kid trying to find answers about his parent’s seemingly random murder into a young man aware that there is a more sinister force at work in Gotham, then typical hoods and organized crime. That force is the secretive Court of Owls. The Court of Owls come from more recent Batman lore as a group that had until Batman arrived successfully conspired for centuries to keep Gotham crime ridden, killing off anyone who wanted the city to improve. In this incarnation, the Court via Hugo Strange, who is a friend of Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s father has him and Martha Wayne killed, ultimately making the Court responsible for the death of Bruce’s parents.

David talks about several important issues such as how Bruce has finally developed an affirmation that he will not kill from the previous episode 3 x 14 The Gentle Art of Making Enemies in his confrontation with Jerome, but also what we can expect in Season 3.  David himself says in that last remaining episodes we can expect the following.

Court of Owls. Court of Owls. Court of Owls. The last eight episodes are going to be very heavily Court of Owls. They have a plan. As I said, Bruce is going to be at the center of their plans. They do something to him that goes back to the very beginning of the show. It’s something I would say is emotional, but it’s beyond that. It shakes the core of Bruce’s being. He’ll never be the same. It will transform him, and that’s going to be his arc in the last eight episodes.

David also gives us hints of Bruce’s clone, 514A created by Hugo Strange, playing an important role in the upcoming 8 episodes. 514A was taken under the wing of the Court (pun not intended) with some possible speculation he could be similar to Lincoln March, groomed by the Court to replace Bruce Wayne in the comics.

You will see that in the very next episode. The Court of Owls will become extremely present in the last eight episodes. At the center of their plans is Bruce Wayne — Bruce and 514A are instrumental to that plan. Something huge will happen with Bruce and the Court of Owls that will change him forever and ultimately help transform him into the man we know he has to become.

However, Gotham will develop other storylines along the way as well. we are set to see the return of Edward Nygma who seems set to finally take up the mantle of the Riddler. His possible conflict with Barbra and Tabitha over control of the Gotham underworld, and Jim Gordon also being drawn into the Court of Owls, are also going to take place these last 8 episodes, along with the appearance of Ra’s Al Ghul.

Gotham is set to return on Fox, Monday, April 24th at 8 pm.
