Kevin Smith Interested In Writing Arrow, A Show He Apparently Doesn’t Watch!

Kevin Smith’s directorial debut on The Flash has been nothing short of a hit among fans. Not only was the writing (not done by Smith himself) amazing, but the general consensus around the web is that the episode as a whole was spectacular. While discussing the aforementioned episode in an interview with Variety ex. Green Arrow writer, Kevin Smith, discussed his ambitions to potentially write a short arc for Arrow that would include the character he had created for the comics; Onomatopoeia. Smith had the following to say:

“I prefer not writing the episode because what we were able to do with me not writing it was, at least for me, substantial and wonderful … just as a directing exercise, I was so happy with it,” explained Smith. “So I wouldn’t want to write on ‘Flash.’ I would, though, like to write on ‘Arrow.’” The director then went on to reveal just which villain he would want to see the Green Arrow take on. “I would love to jump in for a one or two episode arc just to bring that Onomatopoeia character to life. That would be so badass – I created this character in the comics and then to do a live-action version of it that fit into their universe, fit into the run of their show? That would be exciting to me. That’s the one I can get my head around writing, but ‘Flash,’ whenever they bring me back, I think I prefer somebody else doing it. I heard rumor that when I go back, I think Zack [Stentz] might be writing my script again, which would be amazing – we’d be keeping the home team together, so that’d be cool.”

Interestingly numerous fans of Kevin Smith’s weekly podcast, Fatman on Batmanhave emerged from the woodwork to not only note their excitement at the idea that Smith could potentially pull Arrow out of it’s downward spiral for a short period of time…but also to note that Smith himself has openly acknowledged that fact that he doesn’t watch the show.

Smith’s run on Green ArrowQuiver, includes Black Canary as one of a few main characters, so it’s unclear as to whether or not Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim would actually let Smith write an episode of Arrow, or just dictate all of Smith’s wiring to be Felicity-centric.
