Stephen Amell Talks Season 5 Big Bad

A few weeks ago a casting call was released for what could have been Arrow’s Season 5 big-bad (or it could just be for a recurring villain. The report from TV Line hinted that Arrow had begun casting it’s big bad for the shows fifth season and the character – now known as “James” – was described as follows:

“James” is described as an “irrepressibly charming” contemporary of Oliver’s who is said to be “a man on a mission” out to avenge a tragic, violent loss from his past. There’s a chance then that he could appear in Arrow‘s flashbacks then, and TV Line adds that The CW is looking for an actor of any ethnicity who is in his late 20s/early 30s and can come across as a convincing physical threat. Interestingly, the site adds that he could, “just as easily shake your hand as your best friend or break your neck as your worst enemy — and you never know which one is coming. Either way, he’s more than capable of having a good time as he does it.” – via ComicBookMovie

Now, in a recent interview with VarietyArrow star Stephen Amell has gone on record discussing what he currently knows about the shows’ Season 5 big bad. The most intriguing quote from the Variety interview was that he’d “heard that our big bad, our villain, is something that you can really only do once you’re in the fifth, sixth or seventh season of a TV show,”; this sparked rumors around the web that the villain could potentially be a character whom we’ve seen built up over the past few seasons – a rumor that was quickly shot by, well, logic. Why would they need to cast someone we’ve seen over the past few seasons???

While Amell was otherwise hush on other details about the character, he did promise that unlike Damien Darhk the villain of Season 5 would not have superpowers, stating that ” “As far as I know, they don’t have superpowers. I’ll tell you that.”
