Supergirl: New Showrunners for Season 3; Adler Exits

Sorry that this article is a tiny bit late but better late than never. Some recent news has dropped about Supergirl, but mostly from behind the camera. The news is, is that 2 new showrunners have been added for season 3 of Supergirl. One of which is Jessica Queller who has worked on tons of shows in the past, including, Gilmore Girls, Felicity (not the terrible Arrow character), Gossip Girl, and Private Practice. Know an ongoing theme here? In case you couldn’t see it, they are all female driven shows, which should perfectly fit into her filmography. But, she has worked on Supergirl before, producing and writing some episodes. The other showrunner being added is Robert L. Rovner, who has worked on Summerland, Crossing Jordan, Bionic Woman, Dallas (the new series), as well as working on some Supergirl episodes also. This could be the boost that Supergirl is looking for. It is no secret that I think that Supergirl has some untapped potential and can be better than what has been presented to us. Maybe this is the boost that the show needed. While both Queller and Rovner haven’t worked on Breaking Bad levels of TV shows, maybe their new perspective can breathe new life into a show that is in desperate need of it. They will be joining Andrew Kreisberg for showrunning duties.

On the other side of the coin, Ali Adler has exited her role as one of the showrunners of Supergirl. While she still has a role of a consultant, she is no longer a showrunner, for unknown reasons. This could be good news as many fans along with myself, believe that she is one of the many reasons that Supergirl is in the messy rut it is currently in. It may or may not be true, but I would like to think that this is rather good news. We have to wait and see whether or not this will benefit the show or ruin it further.

Supergirl will be returning on Monday, October 9th.
