Supergirl Season 2 Will Have TWO Villains: Cadmus and Cyborg Superman(?)

One fairly interesting fan theory that has floated around since the beginning of Supergirl’s first season somehow tied Dean Cain’s potential return to him playing a Superman-like character as a means of honoring the role he’d previously held as Superman (similar to how The Flash made John Wesley Shipp both Barry Allen’s father, and Jay Garrick of Earth-3). While the theory, at first, didn’t hold much traction Season 1’s revelations that Jeremiah Danvers (Cain’s character) was still alive, and that Hank Henshaw (the name of the PreNew 52 Cyborg Superman) was actually Martian Manhunter, allowed for traction behind the hope/theory to build.

While nothing has been confirmed, the statement made by Supergirl EP Andrew Kreisberg in the most recent EW Spoiler Room seems to imply that fans hoping that Jeremiah Danvers could return as Cyborg Superman may get their wish.

Who’s the new villain on Supergirl in season 2? — Li

To start, it’s Project Cadmus, the mysterious organization that’s apparently been holding Jeremiah Danvers hostage — a second big bad will emerge later in the year. “[Project Cadmus is] dedicated to eradicating alien life on Earth,” EP Andrew Kreisberg says. “They’re fanatics. They’re true believers. It’s a collection of scientists, of very bright, patriotic people who truly believe what they’re saying. That makes them even more dangerous.”

For those unfamiliar with the aforementioned hope/theory, it is postulated that Supergirl will take a cue from the New 52 comics in which Supergirl’s Kryptonian father is Cyborg Superman, however, rather than having her Kryptonian father be the Cyborg Man of Steel, the theory posits that Cain’s Jeremiah Danvers – Kara’s adopted Earth father – will be the Metal-Man of Steel. The announcement made by Kriesberg above seems to back this theory because, according to Kreisberg, Cadmus is “dedicated to eradicating alien life on Earth” if this were the case it’s unlikely that they would equip an alien with cybernetic implants allowing it to stop other aliens…but what about a human? What if Cyborg Superman is Cadmus’ answer to stopping alien life on Earth?

I fail to see how this is “evidence” that Jeremiah Danvers could become the Cyborg Superman OR how it supports this wild theory. I see nothing of the kind even if it could happen. But let’s hope not because in my mind there is only ONE Cyborg Superman: Hank Henshaw. Here’s hoping the REAL Hank Henshaw comes back from the dead as the Cyborg Superman. The Showrunners have some redeeming to do after their reveal Hank was Martian Manhunter (a character he was never supposed to be).
