Thea to Leave Team Arrow and Become Someone Else in Season 5?

If you have been a fan of Thea Queen’s journey over Arrow’s four seasons on air, seeing the character go from stuck up sibling, to bow toting archer, it looks as if the character is set to make another large step in her evolution. A recent interview between TVGuide and Arrow EP Wendy Mericle revealed the following details of Thea’s Season 5 story-arch:

“Thea had bloodlust earlier in the season and since then has been questioning her place on the team, and questioning whether or not she is Speedy, which goes back to her character’s struggle with whether she’s more of a Queen or a Merlyn,” Mericle said. “She’s going to answer that question in [the finale] and come up with, what we hope, is a pretty surprising answer.”

Before suiting up many fans speculated that Thea might become the TV version of Artemis (the Young Justice version), Cheshire, or Arrowette, and seeing as she simply became a version of Mia Dearden; this effectively leaves the stories of Cheshire, Arroweette, and Young Justice’s Artemis virtually untouched and ready for adaptation.

Mericle also went on to say that Arrow’s Season 4 finale, titled Schism, is very aptly titled, and that the title gives “a good clue” for what Season 5 is about, adding that they ” talked about Season 4 as a soft reboot and I think Season 5 will see some big changes on the show”.

Given the fact that Diggle seems pretty torn up about his hand in the death of Laurel, the fact that it seems Thea is leaving, and the fact that Felicity is “not on Team Arrow” (despite the fact that she appears as if she’s a team member…) there may not be a Team Arrow next season. Based on what we know, there’s a chance that Team Arrow next season could only consist of Oliver…or Oliver and Felicity (given her on again/off again appearances).
