Thoughts, Theories, and Critiques on Arrow, 4×21, Monument Point

TOM AMANDES RETURNS AS NOAH KUTTLER – When Team Arrow learns what Damien Darhk’s (guest star Neal McDonough) next move is Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) realizes she needs to ask her father, Noah Kuttler (guest star Tom Amandes), for help. Noah and Oliver (Stephen Amell) have a heart to heart talk that leaves Oliver rattled. Kevin Tancharoen directed the episode written by Speed Weed & Jenny Lynn.

Disclaimer: I am not the same reviewer that reviews Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. With him stepping down due to Arrows drop in quality, I will be continuing the Thoughts and Critiques for the remainder of the season. While its suffered a quality drop, Arrow still has some good aspects to it. These are my thoughts as a reviewer, and I will not hesitate to point out what I believe to be complete trash.

  1. Haha the “Previously on Arrow” clips show literally the two most annoying features of this show right now first up; Island Flashbacks and Felicitys family. But seriously, Felicity’s family is like an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians.
  2. Man this Russia theme makes me really wish Anatoli would make another appearance. You’d think Arrow would use him as a villain or ally to Oliver, unless he’s off limits due to Batman v Superman
  3. “I’m the director of A.R.G.U.S and this is way over my head-this is executive level and department of defence.” But seeing as this is Arrow, they will literally get no help from any outside force including the Flash, and it will be up to the Green Arrow and his team-sorry-duo to save the world.
  4. Gee it sure is convenient that every nuke in the world has the same start up sequence. Wouldn’t the world be screwed then.
  5. “Unhackable” “But Felicity can do it.” Yeah I doubt it. So why would her father be able to do any difference.

Banner-Image7-copy-2143-copy-35 copy 6

  1. “This isn’t about pride Felicity, your father’s a criminal” Diggle this is literally the fate of the entire world. Sure Andy was a traitor and literally everyone else saw that coming but this is the entire world.
  2.  If Diggle honestly thinks Earthquake machines are as weird as they get in a world where there were Mirakuru soldiers, a league of assassins, a psychopath from the future hellbent on killing a man centuries before he was born, a demon from another planet, an immortal tyrant and a time travelling team which has two of their friends on board, perhaps he is more messed up in the head after the whole Andy incident than everyone thought.
  3. Why wouldn’t Oliver just contact Waller and get a secure way off this island. I mean it’s gotta be safer than trekking through Lian Yu with an evil magic guy chasing them. Then again, why lie to Taiana about not owning the backpack that A.R.G.U.S provided and that he’s secretly working with a government agency.
  4. Malcolm Merlyn. Always in the background as the enemy. Oliver really should have killed him instead of cutting off his hand. And while on the topic of his hand, how come Thea is only bringing up his robotic hand now, I mean, they literally fought a few episodes back.
  5. Malcolm’s knowledge once again. A mere few episodes ago, he was saying how he needed to help protect the world as Ra’s Al Ghul, and that Nyssa shouldn’t be allowed to control the worlds saviours. Now he’s saying that the world is insane and needs to end. Logic.

Banner-Image7-copy-2143-copy-35 copy 10

  1. In this scene here, “I could be stuck here and compliant or I could be a pain in your ass”, I really wish that Malcolm used Slades quote from earlier in the series; “Please, go on, finish that sentence. I’m curious to know what kind of threat a teenage girl can make.”
  2. Everyone’s favourite character; Donna Smoak. Why is she even in Oliver’s home. Or is it Felicitys home now. This is confusing.
  3. What logical reason would Donna have to go through Lances stuff.
  4. This scene is honestly the most stupid thing I have ever seen on this show, and that’s saying a lot, because Felicity walking again after being paralysed and just straight out leaving is pretty stupid.
  5. Okay so what is the right thing to do here, Donna? Give up his badge, live an early retirement, and probably let some corrupt cop take over the SCPD? Or become captain again and help protect Star City. Donna is going to have kittens once she finds out about Felicitys double life.

Banner-Image7-copy-2143-copy-35 copy 5

  1. “There are billions of elite hackers on this planet, but the Calculator, whom is also Felicitys father, is the only one who is able to stop Dhark’s plans. Right.
  2. Anarky! How did he get down into the Nexus chamber? I mean I’m sure there isn’t just a welcome sign with bright lights welcoming all who want to survive nuclear annihilation.
  3.  “Riter’s sending reinforcements.” From where?!
  4. Why does Lance put up with her? Honestly she has cost him his badge. 5
  5. Felicity is a terrible CEO, a lot worse than Oliver ever was. “I’ve been busy.” Cue Donna entering the office. Obviously Felicity has been busy.

Banner-Image7-copy-2143-copy-35 copy 9

  1. Does Donna Smoak live in Star City now? Didn’t she live somewhere else? Like she’s always there.
  2. H.I.V.E agents are worse shots than Stormtoopers, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, without Dharks Magic, and maybe the nuclear threat, H.I.V.E really wouldn’t be that big of a threat. I mean, cmon, Noah was standing still.
  3. What I’ve always wondered about Brick, last season and this episode is, what is Bricks abilities? I understand that he’s super strong somehow but he doesn’t see, to back down when hit or shot for that matter. Is he a metahuman or have like a strong skin condition or something.
  4.  Thankfully a Felicity is here picking up Noah, would be a real shame if he got killed. And Noah is so smart for hopping in the van with him. Not like she hasn’t set up a trap to send him to jail before.
  5. “Last years greatest hits.” Now I hate to admit that but that was actually decently funny Felicity. Brick and Murmur. Ha.

Banner-Image7-copy-2143-copy-35 copy 8

  1. “I had hoped that this had ended..differently”. Yes, with a bullet to the head like Shado (RIP Shado, RIP Arrow S2)
  2. How come Alex is the only one under the influence of these mind control drugs with any emotion at all. All these people are blindly following like zombies.
  3. If this computer is in Curtis’s lab, wouldn’t it make sense to, you know, ask Curits? Seeing as he knows about team Arrow now.
  4. I wonder if Oliver has weird flashbacks entering Palmer Tech seeing as it was once his company. Also, his disguise reminds me of Captain Americas disguise in Winter Solider and Civil War.
  5. Felicity is complaining about the elevator her company didn’t fix, despite the the fact that she ran the company that didn’t fix it until about ten minutes prior. That is one excellent reason as to why she got fired.

Banner-Image7-copy-2143-copy-35 copy 12

  1. Because stealing from Felicity is so much worse than Noah’s original plan.
  2. Diggle gave Felicity explicit orders to go on his signal, and she screwed that up. Nice job. I can see Team Arrow hires complete amateurs.
  3. Something I’ve noticed about this episode in particular, Felicity seems to be in the majority of scenes. Like she seems to be in everything. Every single scene. There is at least double Felicity than there is Oliver or even Theas subplot. Do you think the other actors get angry and jealous about the fact that Emily is in majority of scenes now. I mean Stephen is the star of the show, and isn’t in half of the scenes she is in.
  4. “Felicity must have tripped something.” Such an amateur.
  5.  Coincidence that the lab that Felicity was trying to take something from got broken into? Surely the new owners of Palmer Tech would pick that up.

Banner-Image7-copy-2143-copy-35 copy 11

  1. 1It’s this easy to take down someone with these abilities? Why is Dhark such a problem for Oliver and co.? Flashbacks are pointless these days.
  2. The green filter is strong with this scene. Noah should be more focused on, well, Disarming the bomb.
  3. Let’s make saving the world into an Olicity scene. Thanks Noah.
  4. These agents are completely cool with A.R.G.U.S working with superheroes. That’s great.
  5. “The president asked if the fate of the world was up to a criminal, an IT girl and two guys in Halloween costumes.” “They’re not Halloween costumes.” This is my new favourite line.

Banner-Image7-copy-2143-copy-35 copy 9

  1. Because guns have defeated this guy so well before. The power of the idol confuses me, because he wouldn’t have killed anyone in a good four episodes.
  2. Kinda over Alex’s presence. He is such an uninteresting and boring character.
  3. I do enjoy how this fight scene is incorporated. Thea vs Anarky, Oliver and Diggle vs H.I.V.E, kinda reminds me slightly of the fantastic Deathstroke fight scene at the end of season 2. RIP Arrow S2.
  4.  Oh, look, Alex died. His death would have huge ramifications if he’d actually appeared for more than 10 episodes.
  5. Oh my gosh, this fight scene between Oliver and Brick reminds me of the bigfig fight scenes in Lego Games. Just wanted to point that out.

Banner-Image7-copy-2143-copy-35 copy 5

  1. Why can’t Bricks arm be broken? Is he a metahuman? Or is he just super strong.
  2. Somehow, Oliver got inside before Diggle did.
  3. What are the odds the one missile that they couldn’t stop are the act same as the Russian base shown at the beginning of the episode.
  4.  I sincerely hope that this has consequences on Felicity, but then again, it would start a whole other plot with her in. So maybe not.
  5.  So how come this lady is now powerful? Who’d she kill?
  6. Look at all those lovely people enjoying their day. Oh, look at that nuclear bomb.
  7. Didn’t the missile literally just hit? How did she instantly know how many casualties.
  8. What kind of secret passage is that. A ladder, leading to nowhere, hanging on a wall. Who would be so stupid not to get that.
  9. Oh look, Dhark is stuck inside the speed force!

Brick in the comics has “stone-like” skin. He’s nearly indestructible.
I think the show is more showing homage to his ability. It’s more luck and tough skin. (I think)
